Roof moss is very dangerous because it will grow underneath the roof shingle and act like a sponge soaking up water after a good rain. Eventually the moss will cause roof leaks if not treated. Roof moss also accumulates on the North side of the home or where shade is most prevalent.
Roof algae, once attached to a shingled roof, feeds on the dead organic matter used in the manufacturing process of the shingle. As the fungus breaks down the asphalt shingle, the ceramic granules protecting the surface of the shingle are loosened and begin to fall off. This causes the roof to deteriorate prematurely and diminishes the roof's abilities to reflect heat rays. If not treated, the roof algae will reduce the life of your roof, diminish your home's curb appeal and increase your home cooling expenses.

Unfortunately, traditional roof cleaning methods have used high pressure washing and/or hazardous chemical ingredients such as bleach, sodium hydroxide (Lye), copper, zinc, or acid. These techniques could damage the integrity of the roof, your landscaping and even cause harm to siding, brick, windows, gutters and awnings. Now, there is a safer product on the market called Spray & Forget TM that can eliminate these problems. Spray & Forget TM is a no-rinse cleaner and preventative.

The initial removal of roof algae and moss is always more difficult then the prevention of roof algae or moss once the roof is cleaned. A standard practice should be to clean your roof and then apply a preventative such as Spray & Forget TM every 18-24 months to keep the stains from returning. Roof cleaning and prevention has never been easier.
Many people spend countless hours and money cleaning their respective homes every year only to ignore one of the most visible and important parts of the home, the roof. Adding a roof algae/moss prevention program to your annual spring cleaning chores will result in a beautiful home that looks fresh and clean!
Spray & Forget FAQ
Q: How much area will one gallon of Spray & Forget cover?
A: Using a garden pump sprayer, 3 gallons of water mixed
with 1 gallon of Spray & Forget will cover approximately 700 Sq.
Ft., a mixture of 5:1 will cover approximately 1000 Sq. Ft. and
a mixture of 9:1 will cover approximately 2000 Sq. Ft.
Q: Using the rapid results method, can I rinse the stains
from the roof edge?
A: No, the stain removal process requires some pressure.
You will need to rinse with a garden hose and spray gun within
2-3 feet of the stain you are trying to remove. Also, since
water pressure varies from area to area, you should first try
the rapid results method on a small area of your roof first to
see if you have enough pressure. If not, you can use the "no
rinse" application method. The "no rinse" method will always
work and it requires a lot less work since no rinsing is
involved.
Q: How long will it take for roof stains to disappear using
the "no rinse" application method?
A: The stains will disappear in 6-9 months, on average,
using a 9 gallons water to one gallon Spray & Forget mixture. A
stronger concentration can be used to expedite the process. For
example, a 5:1 mix will remove the stains in about 4-6 months on
average. The removal time is also dependent on rainfall.
Q: Will Spray and Forget remove roof moss?
A: Yes. Spray & Forget is very effective on roof moss.
Simply apply a 5:1 to 9:1 mixture of Spray & Forget (5 parts
water to 1 part cleaner or 9 parts water to 1 part cleaner) to
the affected area and the moss will begin to die and be removed
with subsequent rainfall over the next 3-6 months. For thick
moss applications, remove as much of the growth as possible
first using the back end of a rake or broom and then apply Spray
& Forget. This will expedite the removal process. Re-apply Spray
& Forget every 18-24 months to prevent the stains from
returning.
Q: Will Spray & Forget work on stucco, brick, or siding?
A: Yes, Spray & Forget actually works faster on these
surfaces. A 5 gallons of water to 1 gallon of Spray & Forget
mixture applied to these surfaces will remove green stains in
1-3 days and black stains in 1-8 weeks. Do not rinse! You can
only use the "no rinse" application method for these surfaces.
For rapid results, pressure wash the surface first (if
applicable) and then apply Spray & Forget. Spray & Forget will
remove any remaining microscopic spores and prevent the return
of the stains for 12 months.
Q: How long will Spray & Forget last?
A: This is one of the unique advantages of Spray &
Forget. Spray & Forget has a residual effect and actually
adheres to the applied surface. In addition, Spray & Forget,
unlike other cleaning methods such as pressure washing, will
continue to clean microscopic mold spores that are unseen by the
naked eye. That means that the stains will be completed removed.
For these reasons, we guarantee that roof stains will not
reappear for up to two years and that stains on all other
surfaces will remain clean for up to 12 months. Try getting that
kind of result from pressure washing!
Q: How often should Spray & Forget be applied? Can it be used
as a preventative?
A: Spray & Forget is an excellent preventative! After the
initial cleaning, use a mixture of 9 gallons of water to 1
gallon of Spray & Forget every 18-24 months on roofs and every
10-12 months on all other exterior surfaces. This will keep the
stains from returning!
Q: What should I use to apply Spray & Forget?
A: Use a garden pump sprayer from your local hardware
store to apply Spray & Forget unless you cannot get to the
surface using this type of device. In that case, you can
purchase our hose end sprayer that sprays 15-20 Feet. Contact us
if neither device will work for your given application. For
roofs, always apply from the gutter edge to the roof top as the
surface will become slippery. If rinsing the roof, rinse from
the roof top to the gutter edge. Some pressure is required for
rinsing.
Q: Can you use a Hose End Sprayer like the one at my local
hardware store?
A: Unfortunately, you cannot use the hose end sprayer
from your local hardware store. Those sprayers were not designed
for Spray & Forget and do not draw at the right mix ratios for
our product. We recommend using a garden pump sprayer or our
custom designed hose end sprayer with dial in mix ratios.
Q: Can I use your Hose End Sprayer for other cleaning and/or
insecticide products?
A: Sure! Our sprayer can be used with most other products
since the mix ratio can be varied. However, always make sure to
rinse the sprayer thoroughly before any application and consult
with the chemical manufacturer of the product to be used before
applying. Some pre dilution with water may be needed before
using other chemical products. Consult the product manufacturer
for instructions.
Q: Will Spray & Forget work on rust stains?
A: Unfortunately, Spray & Forget will not work on rust
stains. You might try a product called wood bleach that contains
Oxalic Acid and a small brush. Always consult with you local
hardware store first and test on a small area.
Q: Will Spray & Forget work on Cedar Shake roofs, siding or
wood decks/fences?
A: Yes! Spray & Forget will work on all of these
surfaces. Spray & Forget does not contain any harmful bleaching
agents like chlorine or bleach and is not caustic like Sodium
Hydroxide. However, you should always test a small area first to
make sure that your specific stain is not affected. We have
never had any problems with these surfaces but there are many
types of stains and different grades on the market. Therefore,
you should always test a small area just to be safe.
Q: Will the roof algae/moss become slippery after applying
Spray & Forget?
A: Yes, the algae and/or moss will start immediately
dying which results in the surface becoming slippery. For roof
surfaces, always apply from the gutter edge to the roof top and
rinse, if necessary, from the roof top to the gutter edge. We
recommend hiring a professional if you are not experienced with
walking on roofs or dealing with heights.
Q: Can I use a pressure washer to apply and rinse Spray &
Forget?
A: Yes, but consult with us first before using a pressure
washer. We can help you convert the pressure washer to a low
pressure system for rinsing roofs and we can describe the best
application methods. DO NOT USE HIGH PRESSURE ON YOUR ROOF!
